Yi Zhang

About Me

I’m Yi Zhang, an M.Eng. graduate from Beihang University specializing in NLP. I’m seeking a Ph.D. position in Canada or Australia to work on research that bridges theory with real-world NLP applications. After my Ph.D., I plan to work as a machine learning engineer or researcher, focusing on NLP and large language models (LLMs).

Professional Experience

Currently, I am working as a research engineer at BIGO Technology. My work involves utilizing encoder-only transformer models and large language models to address various practical challenges, which has deepened my understanding and passion for NLP.

Visa Status

I am fully prepared to begin my Ph.D. studies in September 2025. Having submitted my visa application in June 2024, I have proactively taken steps to expedite the process by filing a Writ of Mandamus. This action typically accelerates visa decisions, and I am confident that all requirements will be satisfactorily met well before the commencement of the program.
